Michel Parmigiani, esteemed for restoring vintage clocks and watches, opened his workshop in 1976. Notably, the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva showcases pieces revived by him. Kari Voutilainen, a prominent watchmaker, started his career in the same workshop between 1990 to 1999, acquiring invaluable skills. Alongside restorations, Parmigiani ventured into unique creations, founding his manufacture in Fleurier in 1996. Supported by the Sandoz Family Foundation, this partnership offered creative liberty and in-house production capabilities. The brand underwent two design eras: the Toric collection and the later Kalpa and Tonda series.

Tourbillons, with their rotating cage, counteract gravity’s effects, becoming a coveted achievement for watchmakers. The Toric Tourbillon, introduced in 2000, was Parmigiani’s first. It employs a modified Girard-Perregaux “Three Bridges” 9900 ébauche, a movement with accolades from the 19th century.

The Toric collection, inspired by Abraham-Louis Breguet, incorporates classical aesthetics with unique complications. The design, reflecting a torus shape, exhibits details reminiscent of Doric columns and the Golden Ratio. This specific Toric Tourbillon watch showcases an open-worked dial with detailed finishing, highlighting Parmigiani’s craftsmanship. Uniquely, the minute hand sits below the hour hand, a nod to its 19th-century origins. The 40mm diameter watch balances modern sizing with a refined appearance.

Powered by calibre PF280, the watch boasts a 72-hour power reserve and intricate detailing on both the movement and dial, showcasing 20 jewels and a tourbillon regulator. The movement’s reverse side exhibits meticulous craftsmanship, mirroring the dial’s allure.

The watch on offer comes with factory baguette diamonds on the bezel. This version is extremely rare and important, being the early series tourbillon from the house of Parmigiani. This watch is in good condition, it comes without box and paper, it is keeping good time.
